2 Checkeeper videos for creating custom layouts and custom fields

Checkeeper offers helpful video demonstrations of many of Checkeeper’s most used and requested features. Videos are suited to any level of usage, and they cover a wide range of topics, showing both new and experienced users how to access everything from basic to sophisticated features of customized check designing, printing, and mailing. Checkeeper offers two helpful videos (linked below) to show users how to activate inside their accounts specific instructions for layouts and for custom check fields, both of which are helpful for taking users from beginning to end of the processes for giving checks that extra customized and professional look.

Check layouts

The template editor in Checkeeper gives users the tools they need to choose, design, redesign, and format their checks to suit their preference. Some things you can do using the template editor include:

·      Create multiple check layouts to save and use for different purposes

·      Use an uploaded layout

·      Add new check elements, like invoice numbers and customer IDs

·      Place a company logo directly on a check layout

·      Print design images or backgrounds on a check

How to activate a check layout

Checkeeper allows users to create and save multiple check templates to use at their discretion. Only one check template can be active at a time, however, and all checks printed through Checkeeper will default to that check layout until you change it. Selecting a single check layout to activate when you have several saved ones is important for printing the right check on the right template.

The online video here walks you through each step to create and activate a check layout.

Log in to your Checkeeper account and click Layouts from the main navigation page. The ‘active’ layout is designated by a red spiky ball in the top left corner. To change the designation, select a different check layout you want to use for subsequent checks, click on the gear symbol at the top, and select ‘Make Active.’ A red spiky ball will now indicate this new layout as the active one. For users who have multiple saved check layouts to go between, it is helpful to just double-check that you have the right one activated before printing a batch of checks.

Custom check elements

Check elements are the line items included on checks to designate the appropriate payment fields, including payee, amount, date, memo, etc. While Checkeeper templates automatically include the check elements needed to create viable, cashable checks, some users prefer to add their own check elements in order to better align with in-house bookkeeping records and make payments easier to track. Checkeeper enables users to add check elements, such as customer ID or invoice number, and to activate or deactivate them when needed. Check elements can also be repositioned or resized when users want to update their check look.

Some benefits of adding a custom check element include:

·      More accurate expense tracking with an additional search criterion to use to track down payments or sort records

·      More efficient check processing with elements that align to in-house records

·      More expedient bank reconciliation with custom elements that match in-house records

·      Greater customization options that are more specific to bookkeeping needs

How to activate a custom field

Log in to your Checkeeper account, and click on the Settings tab in the left-hand navigation bar. Select ‘Custom Fields’ (along the top line), and then add the name of a new custom field you want to appear on checks. Go back to the Layouts tab to select the specific check layout upon which you want this element to appear. The new field will appear in your menu of element options where you can then drag-drop it into its desired place. Hit ‘Save & Exit.’ Added check elements can be deactivated when needed, but they will not be deleted in case users want to use them for search criteria later on. Make sure to make this check layout the ‘active’ one if you want your new custom check field to be printed on subsequent checks.

Checkeeper offers an array of helpful videos for a variety of customization, printing, and mailing options. ‘Pro Tips,’ inside the Help tab in the Checkeeper account, also walks users through short video demonstrations so that they can get the most out of online check printing and mailing.
